Why does MarketSmart ask for an email list?

  • to send Survey and other MarketSmart Efforts' Invite Email blasts to the right audience;
  • to ensure we are honoring supporter communication preferences;
  • to update supporter contact and demographic information in the MarketSmart Dashboard.

MarketSmart strives to send relevant and timely emails to your supporters. We will only accept lists of supporters that are meant to receive the next email blast based on your strategic calendar.

List Requirements


When creating your list, we require and recommend certain contact fields (see table below). As we process the list, these data points are updated in our system and then populated into the contact fields when a supporter fills out a form to streamline their experience. It is best to maintain consistency with the names of your fields so they can be properly updated in our system.

In addition, you can include custom data points from your CRM. NOTE: You can include up to five (5) custom field data points that will remain the same across all future email lists.

List Maintenance


Email lists should contain active contacts who have engaged with your communications in the past 6- 12 months. If inactive or unsubscribed contacts are included in your email list, we risk an increase in spam complaints and bounce rates. This will negatively affect the sending reputation and our ability to send emails.

Maintaining the cleanliness of the list will help us continue sending on your behalf, so we will expect that you provide a list of unsubscribes or suppressions relevant to your upcoming blast. These lists can be uploaded in addition to your blast list.

These are contacts who should not receive ANY email communications from the MarketSmart Engagement Fundraising System.

Suppressions

These are contacts who should not receive SPECIFIC email communications from the MarketSmart Engagement Fundraising System. When you provide a suppression list, please indicate which communications they should not receive.

List Upload

  • Lists should be uploaded to the Secure File Upload at least 10 business days before your scheduled blasts.
  • If we receive your list less than 10 business days before a blast, the date of the blast will be rescheduled based on our availability.
  • Our team requires at least 10 business days to review, validate, process, and schedule the email blast for all lists.

Email Blast Dates

  • Blasts will be scheduled between Tuesdays and Thursdays. In certain situations, we can send on Mondays as well.
  • All dates are subject to availability – if your preferred sending dates are already booked, your Customer Success Manager will work with you to find new dates.
